It’s official: The IBEW Local 212 and NECA want to be the leaders in solar photovoltaics—to take advantage of whatever opportunities this technology may yet offer. Together, electrical workers and contractors are preparing the necessary programs to ensure our industry’s success. The goal is to keep under their joint umbrella all the work related to electrical construction—and photovoltaics, the conversion of the sun’s energy into electricity, certainly qualifies!
How can we accomplish this? The IBEW Local 212 and NECA are determined to work with all the leading figures—solar-technology-focused groups, and manufacturers of solar products and systems—to ensure our success in preparing for the latest innovative technologies.
Working through our Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, the IBEW Local 212 and NECA are seeking—along with major advocacy groups and solar product manufacturers—to be instrumental in establishing a national accreditation and certification board for photovoltaic installation and maintenance. One way to establish the “who is qualified” credentials in this area is to establish a nationally standardized means of certification for those who have completed accredited programs. Thus, the National Photovoltaic Construction Standards & Certification Partnership (NPCSCP), to be coordinated through the NJATC, has been created by the IBEW-NECA team and others.
