An especially important element of apprenticeship is On-the-Job training. Apprentices are placed to work with one of our 45 electrical contractors. These training assignments can be located anywhere within Local 212’s jurisdiction. This includes Hamilton, Clermont or Brown counties in Ohio, Dearborn, Switzerland or Ohio counties in Indiana and Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Kenton Gallatin, Grant or Pendleton counties in Kentucky. For this reason it is necessary for all apprentices to have reliable transportation.
The regular workday is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, with 1/2 hour for lunch, but may vary depending on contractor bids. Apprentices are required to work every day and to be on time and ready to start work at the assigned time.
On-the-Job training is what sets our programs apart from a traditional education. Because of On-the-Job training, you are able to “Earn While You Learn”! Apprentices wages and benefits are based on percentages of journeymen or installer technicians rates (see wage schedules for current wage and benefit information). As you gain more experience, your wages and benefits grow! And by the time you finish your apprenticeship, you will have years of actual experience under your belt, along with the knowledge you need to apply that experience.
