Medium Voltage Syllabus

MEDIUM VOLTAGE POWER CABLES - MVC110

This 16 hour course is for electricians or supervisors who install, splice or maintain medium voltage cable systems. The course will discuss medium voltage cable ampicities, conduit sizing, and pulling considerations. The course will provide instruction on various types of shielded medium voltage power cables. Instruction will be provided on the reuired tools and techniques to prepare the cable ends for terminations or splices. Hands on training will allow participants to perform the following:

 

 

 

  • Construct heat or cold shrink termination
  • Construct 200A load break elbows
  • Construct 600A dead break elbows
  • Construct heat or cold shrink splices
  • Testing of MVC cables will be discussed and demonstrated
  • General safety practices will be outlined

The course will also provide the necessary instruction for electricians or supervisors to choose appropriate installation practices, terminating kits, terminating procedures and rudimentary testing. The following tools must be provided by each participant:

  • Razor knife or wire stripping device
  • Ruler or steel tape
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Channel locks
  • Screw driver
  • Pen or Permanent Marker (Sharpie)

Jeff Jones will be the instructor for this course. Paticipants will earn one credit hour from Northwest State Community College and a completion certificate. Cost is $50.00 to IBEW/NECA members only.
